The second year of the unique Ludwig Princeton Summer Internship in cancer research wrapped up with an exciting poster session in Carl Icahn Laboratory Atrium at Princeton on August 2. Eleven undergraduate students, rising sophomores and juniors at Rutgers University and Princeton University, participated in research projects at Ludwig member and collaborator labs for 9 weeks over the summer.
In addition to their research projects, students heard weekly faculty lectures, traveled to the University of Pennsylvania to shadow physicians in a cancer clinic, and participated in molecular tumor board meetings.
The poster show drew a large crowd to listen to the students to present great science to their guests.
Ludwig Princeton members and professors of Molecular Biology, Yibin Kang and Lydia Lynch, judged the show and chose two outstanding posters as winners.
Rutgers student Gwendolyn Chung was presented with the overall award on August 2. Chung studied in the Herranz Lab at Rutgers for the summer and presented her poster “Depletion of Histidine Causes Survival Extension and Inhibits Tumor Proliferation in T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.”
Princeton student Dinora Rivas '26 won runner up. Rivas studied in the Rabinowitz Lab at Princeton over the summer and presented her poster “Quantifying Immune Cell Specific Metabolic Differences in Spleen.”
The internship will enter its third year in 2025, and those interested in applying should keep an eye out for applications to open in late fall 2024.
